Structural Characteristics and Materials of Highway Guardrails
Rigid Guardrail:
Advantages: High stiffness and strength, can resist strong impacts, effectively preventing vehicles from crossing the guardrail.
Disadvantages: Poor energy absorption, causing greater harm to vehicle occupants, especially small passenger cars.
Semi-rigid Guardrail:
Advantages: Easy to construct, better aesthetic effect, causes less harm to occupants.
Disadvantages: Requires high soil foundation compaction; when connecting with other types of guardrails, proper transition treatment is needed.
Flexible Guardrail:
Advantages: Minimizes harm to occupants, best transparency, good harmony with natural environment, and does not block snow in winter.
Disadvantages: Rebound after collision may affect other vehicles moving in the same direction; also requires high soil foundation compaction; higher daily maintenance costs.
Materials:
Highway guardrails are usually made of steel, aluminum alloy, and other materials, characterized by flexible assembly and durability.
Surface treatments vary, including electroplating, hot-dip galvanizing, plastic spraying, and plastic dipping, to enhance corrosion resistance and extend service life.
